Tradify Review 2026 — Is It Better Than ServiceM8 for Australian Tradies?

Tradify and ServiceM8 are the two job management platforms most Australian tradies short-list. We have spent the last twelve months running both side by side across painters, builders, carpenters, plumbers and electricians on our BackOnTools network. This is the honest 2026 review — what Tradify does well, where ServiceM8 still beats it, and which trades should pick which.

What Tradify is

Tradify is a New Zealand-built job management platform aimed squarely at small and growing trade businesses. It covers the full operational stack — quoting, scheduling, job tracking, timesheets, purchasing, invoicing and supplier integrations. It runs on web for the office and on iOS and Android for the field. It has been one of the fastest growing trade SaaS products in Australia for the last three years, and in 2026 it sits at roughly 35,000 paying customers globally.

Pricing (2026)

Tradify prices the first user, then adds a per-user fee for additional field staff. As of 2026:

For a five-person business on Plus you are looking at roughly $155 a month. That is competitive with ServiceM8 — it depends heavily on usage patterns.

What is genuinely good about Tradify

The mobile app. Tradify's mobile app is the single biggest reason tradies switch to it. It is fast, clean, and the layout was designed by someone who has actually used an iPhone in dust and rain. Quotes can be built in under two minutes. Photos attach instantly. The app handles offline mode and syncs cleanly. ServiceM8's app is functional but dated by comparison.

Quick setup. A new Tradify account can be usable in 30 minutes. Templates, branding, products and a first quote — done. ServiceM8 takes longer because it has more knobs to turn.

Modern UI. Tradify looks like it was designed in 2024 because it was. The web app is responsive, the colour scheme is calm, and finding things is intuitive. It does not feel like a 2010s product.

Good for construction trades. Builders, carpenters and remodelling contractors get the most out of Tradify. The way jobs, costings and purchase orders link together suits jobs that run for weeks with multiple suppliers and stages.

Quoting workflow. Tradify's quote builder is faster than ServiceM8's. Markups, kits and saved line items are well-implemented. Acceptance via the customer portal is slick.

What is less good

Form templates. ServiceM8 has hundreds of community-built form templates for trade-specific compliance — gas certificates, plumbing WaterMark records, electrical certificates of compliance, asbestos sign-off and more. Tradify's form layer is functional but thinner. If your trade lives or dies by compliance forms, ServiceM8 is still the better tool.

Australia-specific depth. ServiceM8 was built in Brisbane. Its integrations with Australian suppliers, its handling of GST edge cases and its support for state-by-state compliance are still slightly deeper. Tradify is closing that gap fast but it is not closed yet.

Younger product. Tradify has fewer years of edge-case bug-fixing than ServiceM8. We have seen occasional sync hiccups with Xero around credit notes and rounding. Nothing fatal, but worth knowing.

Reporting depth. Tradify's reporting is adequate. ServiceM8's is more flexible if you want to slice margin by tech, by trade type or by suburb.

Verdict

Tradify is a strong choice in 2026 — especially if you value modern UX, a fantastic mobile app and quick setup over deep form customisation. For builders, carpenters and multi-trade generalists it is genuinely the better product. For compliance-heavy specialists like plumbers and gas fitters, ServiceM8 still has the edge. Both are good products. The decision is about fit, not absolute quality.

Pairing Tradify with BackOnTools

The biggest hole in any job management platform — Tradify or ServiceM8 — is that it cannot answer the phone. Tradify makes it easy to manage a job once it is in the system. It does nothing about the calls you miss while you are on the tools. BackOnTools fills that hole. The AI answers every call, books the job, captures the customer details and pushes the job straight into Tradify so you have a quote-ready job card waiting when you climb down.
